Planting Recommendations
Plant:
Approx late July to mid
October.
Spacing:
Plant 30-35cm apart to allow
tops to grow.
Depth:
Plant
approx 3-5cm deep.
Fertiliser:
Sulphate of potash, apply 30-60g per square metre of
soil. No lime
when
planting.
Watering:
Regular watering to maintain soil moisture is essential.
Harvesting:
Approx May/ June/ July, when tops of yam plant have totally died off
or
after first frost.
It is recommended that if you are in regions that have frost’s,
leave
your
yams in the ground to get frosted a few
times. This
then
enhances
the flavour. If your garden doesn’t become water logged over
winter,
you can leave your crop in the garden for a few
months.
Storage:
Keep in a dry dark
place till required for eating.

pack size: 200g and 500g.

Inca Gold
Yam
Inca Gold is a new variety
breed for New Zealand conditions by Crop & Food Research at Lincoln. Morton Smith-Dawe has been granted
marketing rights to this new variety. It has a yellow flesh and grows up to 10cm long and 3cm thick. It has a
lovely flavour and is a high yielder.
